Skinny Margarita Mocktail with Strawberries

Skinny Margarita Mocktail with Strawberries

Strawberry Margarita Mocktail (with a Tequila Twist, If You’d Like)

Let’s just say it: I love a good margarita moment. But sometimes, I want all that citrusy, salty, spicy zing—without the booze. That’s where this Strawberry Margarita Mocktail steps in. It’s bubbly, bright, and feels just as festive as the real deal… with zero hangover risk.

And since we’re celebrating National Tequila Day, I had to give you a little tequila tip too (just in case you’re feeling a little wild). This one’s easy to make, naturally sweetened, and completely adaptable—because we love options around here.

A Sweet Swap with Agave Nectar

Here’s a fun twist I love sharing: agave nectar isn’t just a great sweetener—it’s also tequila’s cousin. Both come from the blue agave plant, so agave nectar brings that subtly smoky-sweet flavor you’d get from a high-quality tequila, minus the alcohol. It’s my favorite trick when I want the essence of a margarita without the buzz.

That said… if you’re feeling festive and want to spike it, just add a splash of tequila in place of the sparkling water and keep it moving. (No judgment here.)

More About This Recipe

Agave Nectar as an alternative to tequila:
Don’t have enough time to make the simple syrup? Then use
Agave Nectar! You can use agave nectar, which is a syrup made from the blue agave plant. It has a sweet, deep caramel flavor profile, which is reminiscent of tequila and is distilled from the same plant. This is an excellent tequila replacement for the non-alcoholic margarita and any virgin drink that calls for tequila.

Cooking Tips

  • Don’t skip the rim: The Tajín-salt-sugar combo makes this mocktail feel like it came straight from a beachside bar. So fun and SO easy.
  • Make the syrup ahead: That jalapeño-cilantro simple syrup is gold. Store it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks and use it in everything—from mocktails to salad dressings to iced teas.
  • Use a muddler: A cocktail muddler makes it easier to smash your strawberries just enough to release their juices. If you don’t have one, the back of a spoon works too!

Kitchen Tools You’ll Want

  • Cocktail muddler (or just a sturdy spoon)
  • Small saucepan
  • Mason jar (for syrup storage)
  • Citrus juicer
  • Margarita glasses (you deserve pretty glassware!)
