While these cookies are a treat, they also come with some surprising health benefits.
Let’s break them down!
1. Dark Chocolate (Rich in Antioxidants)
Dark chocolate, especially with a high cocoa content, is known for being a powerful source of antioxidants. It contains flavonoids, which have been shown to improve heart health, reduce inflammation, and even enhance brain function.
- Heart Health: Studies suggest that the flavonoids in dark chocolate can improve circulation and reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels .
- Brain Function: Dark chocolate may also boost cognitive function by increasing blood flow to the brain. This is particularly beneficial for women over 50, as it can help combat age-related cognitive decline .
- Gut Health: For those with celiac disease, eliminating gluten can prevent gut inflammation and promote better nutrient absorption .
- Plant-Based Fats: Vegan butter often contains plant-based oils, which can provide heart-healthy fats like polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. These fats can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol while raising HDL (good) cholesterol .
- Moderation: While sugar can be enjoyed in moderation, opting for organic varieties means fewer chemicals and preservatives in your sweeteners .
- Protein Boost: Eggs are rich in essential amino acids that help maintain muscle mass, which is crucial for women as they age .
