Hi I'm Christine Avanti and I'm a nationally known nutritionist. I've been asked this question literally hundreds of times. And I understand why. I've built a career that is incredibly inspiring and fun EVERY DAY.

Dear friend,

I LOVE Mondays just as much as every other day. Sometimes I am actually SAD that it is Friday afternoon because I LOVE what I do.
If you can't say that about your work, you probably are not working in the right field.
My work in the nutrition field is my absolute passion and it is just like they say - find your passion and the rest will take care of itself.
But there was once a time when I was a legal secretary, scrambling to get my work clothes pressed, waking up late on Mondays, battling the commute, doing my makeup in traffic, showing up at 7:30 every day just to sit in the office in SHEER BOREDOM.
It was like "The Office" - Except not funny.
I knew that if I stayed too long, it would drain the life out of me forever. I wondered if I would ever escape.
One thing I used to do a lot was check out ads for other jobs. I figured if I could find something better, I would be happier.
I remember the absolute thrill of Friday afternoon. I knew that freedom was coming.
In the end, there was no escaping the fact that I just didn't have a passion for the office life. Any other job would just be more of the same.
I needed something. I needed a break - a change. I needed a whole new career.
I made the decision to become a nutritionist and it has absolutely been the time of my life. I am my own boss and I'm in charge of my own schedule and I have been for 10 years now.
But it was NOT easy. I made many, many mistakes. I got myself in some challenging situations just because I didn't have a roadmap on how to make the business work.
Once after the 2001 recession, I remember sitting on the floor of my apartment in tears, clipping coupons from the newspaper because I couldn't afford food.
I reached a point where my client base was so low that I had to apply for a job at Starbucks.
They turned me down.
I finally got a job as a nighttime janitor in a gym. I was on my knees scrubbing equipment in the middle of the night. It seemed that my dream had turned into a nightmare.
But I persisted. I never gave up.
Slowly I built my business. I wasted plenty of time and money along the way. There was no roadmap, I made it up as I went along.
My experience grew and I put some great techniques into play that REALLY changed my interaction with my clients for the better.
Through trial and error I figured out the most effective ways to promote myself.
Eventually, my client base grew. Soon after, the media began to call me for comments on health, nutrition and weight loss. That really helped me get new clients.
Then soon after, I began to get inquiries from famous people, local universities and companies. It has grown steadily from there.
You might know that now I am a health correspondent for multiple national TV shows including E! News, Rachael Ray, and Dancing With The Stars. I was seen on prime time TV by 20 million people - and I've published my first hardcover book with a major New York publisher.
